JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for providing support for the design, planning, installation and integration of MPD systems on drilling rigs.  The subsea systems specialist will work closely with the client to ensure that the deepwater MPD systems can be safely, efficiently, and effectively integrated onto the drilling rig, specifically the drilling riser.  The subsea systems specialist works closely with and provide guidance to the global product line support, geozone operations, R&D engineering, manufacturing, and 3rd party vendors to ensure the equipment and installations meet global standards and service quality expectations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Single point contact with both internal (Region) and external clients for all project work from concept through to project delivery

Single point accountability for design, integration, and installation of deepwater MPD systems on MODU’s according to client specification.

Single point accountability for on-time delivery, installation, and commission of MPD systems and riser components.

Assist in preparation of MEL (Master Equipment List), BOM (Bill of Materials), Maintenance of these lists, as well as use of these list to prepare and maintain:

  • MPD System Integration Plan
  • System Certification Plan
  • Survey plan and schedule
  • Functional design specification

Work with engineering on FDS (Functional design specification)

Reviews and assists with the preparation of MPD layout drawings, subsea equipment/instrument specifications, etc. to ensure quality of design, conformance to standards and compatibility with existing installations and riser systems

Experienced with applicable industry and regulatory codes, standards, and recommended practices for subsea control systems. Ability to participate on industry committees.

Oversee the fabrication, testing, and delivery of deepwater MPD systems

Ability to provide commissioning and operational procedures for the installation of deepwater MPD systems, oversee equipment installations, and oversee the commission of deepwater MPD systems.

Detailed knowledge with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Detailed knowledge of API Standard 53, API Q1, API 6A, API 16A, API 16C, API 16D.

Detailed knowledge with umbilical reelers and umbilical systems for subsea systems.

Prepares detailed design packages in support of project needs.

Support the field staff with troubleshooting

Analyzes reliability issues and opportunities in order to improve system design

Develops preventive maintenance (PM) strategies to ensure reliable operation of deepwater MPD systems

Responsible to share technical input and know-how and experience with the Team

Work with A&I on finding re-deployable inventory, and or suitable assets to utilize that meet stringent Quality requirements needed for offshore deployment

Ensure deepwater MPD systems are designed and delivered to meet applicable industry certifications as well as specific regional requirements.

Standardize deepwater MPD system integration designs to maximize productivity/efficiency & minimize time/cost.

Ensure equipment meets the requirements of class & operational requirements.

Communicate between Suppliers, Engineering, and Manufacturing & Independent Verifying Bodies (IVB) to ensure Design Approval for system components.

Facilitate between IVB, Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing & 3rd Party suppliers to ensure compliance activities are completed in time & in accordance to the requirements.

Assist the customer in troubleshooting with MPD installations.

Participate in client HAZOP, HAZID, DWOP, Root Cause Investigations

Participate in Engineering Design Review, New Product Testing,

Ensure said work instructions meet maintenance & legislative requirements.

Create Standardized Performance Standards for departmental equipment to ensure global compliance & utilization.

Regularly consults with Geozone and Product line management

Works intimately with peers at client offices.

Accurately estimate new projects given defined scope of work. COGS (Cost of goods sold), margin, spares, redundant equipment, tools, FAT budget

Prepares/reviews status reports, schedules and plans as required

Provide functional and technical advice and resolve problems

Coordinates and responds to requests for changes

Develops and maintains technical and project documentation

Know and understand Weatherford Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.

Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Weatherford.

Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience with API, DNV, and ABS certifying authorities

Self-starter, ability to plan jobs, travel, logistics, weekly deliverables

Intimate knowledge of API, U.S. Coast Guard CFR’s, ABS-CDS, & DNV OSE-101 

General knowledge of MPD systems

Experience commissioning, FAT, SIT, troubleshooting subsea systems

Ability to plan, schedule, track and deliver projects on time

Use of Microsoft project / primavera for planning / scheduling

Office / Field experience with certification / installation / operation of subsea systems

Minimum 5 year experience with Regulator or Certification Authority interface, or working directly for Regulator or DNV / ABS /BV / Lloyds

Minimum 2 years Project management experience

Minimum 1 years client-facing positions

Microsoft Office Suites

5 yrs field experience in this or similar industry

Communications skills

The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations.

Very strong technical writing skills

Passport

ESTA or US Visa

Ability to travel > 30% of the year

Preferred:

BSC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

10 years’ experience

Senior Subsea or Subsea Engineer background on a MODU

Project management Academy / PMI

In depth knowledge of deepwater riser systems

Trainer level subject matter expertise in 1 or more WFT PL’s.

Use of JDE, Endeca, and other inventory and asset systems

Use of Autocad, Microsoft Visio

Certificate / BSC / MSC – Electrical od Mechanical Engineering

10 years of MPD experience heavily weighted to offshore

4 years project management experience with multimillion dollar projects

Supervisor Level Well Control (IWCF / IADC)

BOSIET / HUET
