JOB DESCRIPTION

The Applications Engineer serves as a functional link between Sales, Operations, R&D, Sustaining Engineering, and Product Line Management with regard to new technologies and existing products and services.  Performs engineering and operational services in support of all aspects of the sale and deployment of the Product Line.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure engineering functions are performed and delivered for Directional Drilling (DD) and Revolution Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS)/Mud Motor technology for land and offshore operations. 

Perform engineering analysis utilizing drilling optimization software for wellbore placement modelling Torque & Drag, Hydraulics, BHA Vibration, BHA Critical Speed Analysis and BHA stresses. 

Provide recommendations to optimize MSE (Mechanical Specific Energy), ROP (Rate of Penetration) and drilling performance.

Analyze tool history and undertake specific engineering analysis on Mud Motor/RSS tools pre-job, during job execution and post-job on business critical jobs. 

Ensure optimal directional well bore placement for high-risk jobs by monitoring wellbore collision avoidance and interfacing real-time with RTOC personnel and rig site operations personnel. 

Provide feedback on mechanical issues relating to Mud Motor/RSS to management and R&D to ensure factors contributing to tool failures are effectively analyzed for mechanical tool design improvements.

Quality checks pre-job programming and information for all RSS tools.

Interface directly with reliability engineers to ensure proper failure analysis which includes identification of all contributing operational parameters. 

Effectively use the Weatherford suite of optimization to exploit efficiencies that can be delivered pre-job, during execution and post-job.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with five years’ experience in directional drilling with Rotary Steerable Systems/Mud Motor technology providing engineered based feedback utilizing drilling optimization software for wellbore placement, analyzing Torque & Drag, Hydraulics, BHA Vibration, BHA Critical Speed Analysis and BHA stresses with recommendations for MSE, ROP and drilling performance.  

Position requires 30% domestic travel.
